2016/17 Committee

President: Isabella Wilson

As the President, I oversee all committee activities and Grimshaw events. I’m a British undergraduate student studying a BSc in International Relations. Previously I was a Speaker’s Officer on the committee, where my role was to organise academic events for Grimshaw members.  Part of the reason I chose to study IR in the first place was because it was so interdisciplinary, and so I hope to ensure Grimshaw connect with other departments and subjects. I’m particularly interested in Public International Law and Civil and Political Rights within International Relations. Please feel free to email me with any ideas for the society, the blog, or if you want to get involved in the committee! I also think it’s important to connect to other student bodies outside of LSE, so if you’re not from LSE but are interested in working with Grimshaw I’d love to know.

Vice President: Kelly Benguigui

I’m a French undergraduate doing a BSc in Government. I will serve the role of the Vice President of the Grimshaw Club for the 2016/2017 academic year.I am deeply pleased to have been selected as the Vice President this year. Not because it is quite of an ego boost. I am pleased because I know that I will be working with great students with whom we will do everything to reunite LSE students around stimulating talks. I am strongly committed to communicate my passion for international politics and for the field of IR to as many students as possible. You can count on me to feed your intellectual appetite for international affairs. If you do not have one, as I know that many of students do not and that is perfectly fine, I will nevertheless try my best to make questions of international politics and questions related to the academic discipline of IR part of your numerous guilt-free weekly pleasures.
Many ‘bisous’.

Trips Manager: Josh Kemp

As the Trips Officer, I am responsible for ensuring that the famous Grimshaw trips run successfully. I’m a British undergraduate student in my final year studying for a BSc in International Relations.  I have just joined the Grimshaw Committee as Trips Officer, having spent the previous two years on the Amnesty International Committee, most recently as Vice President.  I am incredibly interested in the ways in which states interact on a soft power level, and the means with which international compromise is sought and achieved. I look forward to working with the trip leaders over the ext year – the whole point of the Grimshaw trips is that they are student led, from student’s ideas, so if you want to lead a trip, or just have an idea of somewhere we should look at going, let me know!

Speaker’s Officer: Leonard Holzer

Ladies and Gents, I’m Leo and I serve as one of the Grimshaw Club’s four Speaker’s Officers on the committee. I am a German graduate student of International Relations and before I came to LSE I went to law school both in Germany and the US. My areas of interest include the international relations of the Middle East, the EU as an actor in international politics and Public International Law, particularly International Humanitarian Law. My job is to bring outstanding personalities with a background in International Relations – be it academics, diplomats, politicians, military officers or others – to LSE to talk about the big questions that move the world. I’m grateful to have been given the opportunity to do this in a city like London and as part of the oldest IR club in the world, which enables me to draw on a set of enormous resources in doing my job. I’m looking forward to many memorable presentations, speeches, coffee mornings and panel discussions, which I hope will enrich all of our student lives here at LSE. If you have any kind of questions, suggestions or critique please give me a shout.

One of my favorite things in the world is reading about and debating political theory, current events, or art and culture. Hi! I’m a first year undergraduate student studying International Relations and History. Though I’m French-Australian, I’ve lived in Singapore for the past eight years and remain very interested in Southeast Asian geopolitics. Other passions include United States foreign policy, the relationship between the developed and developing worlds, and peacemaking in modern conflicts, though I’m more broadly interested in pretty much everything that falls under the Grimshaw umbrella. As First Year Representative, my job will be to engage with Grimshaw’s first year membership and work with the social and speakers officers to help ensure our society continues to deliver events and talks about the most topical international relations issues out there.
